Ingredients: 1/2

shortening 2
eggs 1
teaspoon
vanilla 1
teaspoon
salt 2 1/2
cups
flour,
sifted 2 to 3 times
1
teaspoon
baking soda 1 1/2
cups
sugar 1/4
cup
red food coloring 2
tablespoons
cocoa 1
cup
buttermilk 1
teaspoon
vinegar
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar till fluffy. Add eggs and beat 1 minute. Put cocoa and red coloring in cup and make paste. Add to shortening mixture. Add salt and vanilla to buttermilk, adding milk and flour alternately to shortening mixture, mixing well after each addition. Put vinegar and soda in cup and mix. Add to mixture. Bake in two 9" pans at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. See frosting section for Frosting recipe (???).
